Bikers4Bandanas another huge success

The bikers enjoyed breakfast and loads of lucky draw prizes were awarded.

THE overcast and windy weather on Sunday, 16 November did not impact on the success of the Sunflower Fund’s second annual Bikers4Bandanas breakfast run which started at Southway Mall and finished at Jimmy Bellows in Westville.

A total of 300 bikers supported the event and through the entries, sales of Sunflower Bandanas, donations and a raffle, some R31,181 was raised allowing the fund to include new bone marrow stem cell donors on the South African Bone Marrow Registry.

The more donors on the registry, the more hope children and young adults diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their 1:100,000 donor match.

The bikers enjoyed breakfast and loads of lucky draw prizes were awarded. The trophy for the biggest club entry was claimed by Megaforce Motorcycle Club, with a total of 34 participating bikers.

Stephanie Berry, PR manager for the Sunflower Fund in KZN encouraged bikers to become bone marrow stem cell donors by callling the Sunflower Fund’s toll free number, 0800-121082, to complete a form which they can then present at their closest SANBS clinic. It only takes two test tubes of blood to become a donor and if you are a perfect match, there is no surgery involved. It is your opportunity to ‘share a little, save a life’.

The Sunflower Fund thanks the KZN Motorcycle Federation, Westville Old Boys Sports Club, Anna’s Glass Art, all the bikers who participated and all the prize sponsors for making the morning possible.
