Hijacker abandons SUV after gunfight with police

The pursuit ensued over spaghetti junction to the N2 southbound where it is alleged the hijacker shot at police.

MONTCLAIR police recovered a Toyota Fortuner during a shoot-out with a hijacker on Thursday, 30 October.
Tracker signal confirmed the car had been stolen in Kloof.

The same Fortuner was spotted on the N3 near Pavillion and Westville SAP gave chase.

The pursuit ensued over spaghetti junction to the N2 southbound where it is alleged the hijacker shot at police. Police continued the chase along the N2 and the Fortuner came to a stop on Higginson Highway bridge, where the driver fled on foot while still shooting, he crossed oncoming traffic. Montclair SAP and Metro Police arrived went and chased the suspect in a swamp on the northbound side of the N2. “Durban South K9 units were quickly on the scene and searched the area but were unable to trace him. The Fortuner was recovered, dusted for fingerprints and booked in at Montclair SAPS. Investigations are continuing, “said KZN media’s Major Thulani Zwane. The Fortuner was impounded at Montclair SAP.
