Disabled parking defender lauded by QuadPara

Bluffite Salim Sheik was rewarded.

THANKS, accolades and awards have been laid upon Bluffite, Salim Sheik who spoke out against an able-bodied man who misused a disabled parking and got beaten up for his efforts.

Many people have taken to social media to congratulate Sheik for making a stand when many others do not.

He has received letters of thanks and has been hailed as a hero by the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA). “I did not expect any of this. It wasn’t  something that I planned – it was not meant to happen, but it did and I am grateful for the support I have received from the community and QASA since then,” said Sheik.

On Monday, 27 October QASA CEO Ari Seirlis handed Sheik a certificate of thanks on behalf of the organisation. “He was brave, he was bold, he is principled – we had to support him. We acknowledge his bravery and vision. Often, Good Samaritans get the brunt of abuse from abusers of wheelchair parking facilities and we are proud of anyone who stands up for our facilities,” said Seirlis.

“This really is a feather in my cap and I will continue to stand up for what I believe in,” said Sheik.

QASA urges people to report offenders to them. “We write to the offender and request them to re-consider their parking choices.” Take a photo of the car with the vehicle registration number and wheelchair parking sign visible and send it to 073-853-9675 via WhatsApp. Include the date, time and location.
