Eskom declares KZN power emergency
71,000 customers in KZN and Eastern Cape provinces will be affected.
Some 71,000 KZN and Eastern Cape electricity users will be affected by a fault and the required repairs to Eskom’s Ariadne/Eros 400kV transmission line.
Eskom experienced a fault on Monday, 27 October at about 8pm on this line which feeds the greater Kokstad, Ixopo, Umzimkhulu and Riversdale areas.
“Our technical teams have assessed the damage and expect repairs to the line to take about seven hours. To ensure full preparation for the repairs, Eskom needs to undertake an outage from 8.30am to about 3.30pm tomorrow, 29 October. The line between Ariadne and Riverdale will be switched off during the repairs, affecting about 71,000 customers in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape,” said communications and stakeholders relations manager, Joyce Zingoni.
Eskom urges customers to treat all installations as ‘live’ during the electricity outage. They advise customers to switch off or disconnect electrical appliances in use. “Eskom would like to apologise for any inconvenience to all customers who will be affected,” said Zingoni.
