Montclair armed robbers steal R50,000

The home-owner believes the thieves followed him home.

A Montclair man and his brother were held at gunpoint and robbed of R50,000 cash on Thursday, 16 October at about 11am.

The men, who did not wish to be named, withdrew R50,000 from a bank in Galleria Mall and drove home to Streatham Crescent, Montclair. When the men arrived home they heard a vehicle pull up at a sudden stop and two men got out. “They kept asking me where the money was,” said the home-owner. The thieves held the home-owner and his brother at gunpoint. When the men handed over the money, the robbers fled.

The home-owner believes the thieves followed him home. A case was opened at Montclair SAP. One of the robbers, a 32-year-old man, was arrested at his home in Umlazi W-section by W/O Tiger Ramsamy on Friday, 17 October. He appeared in Durban Court on Monday, 20 October and denied bail. No money has been recovered.
