Gallery hosts creative workshops for artists

All workshops start at 9am and end at 3pm daily.

DURBAN Art Gallery, as part of its mandate to add its weight to help educate, empower and develop the visual arts community in KZN, is hosting a series of free workshops for the creative industries in and around greater Durban.

“We would like to invite interested visual artists to participate in a series of creative professional practice workshops scheduled in six different Durban venues. This would be especially useful for artists entering into the profession,” says DAG education officer, Witty Nyide.

The workshops are designed to assist creatives who wish to enhance their professional practise skills, including: Defining a strategy related to your individual career plan; artists’ portfolio of work online and off; networking; helpful online resources; marketing yourself/brand and knowing your value; galleries and agents; funding; writing funding proposals and where to find these funds; residencies, projects, collaborations; gaining the relevant experience; how to price and where to sell your work; how to establish yourself as a professional artist and time management, studio, submission deadlines and meetings.

The remaining workshop schedule is:

Redfern Community Hall in Phoenix on 20 and 21 October; Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu Creative Centre at 1 Mdubu Road on 12 and 13 November; Mountview Hall in Amora Drive off Inanda Road on 25 and 26 November and at Isipingo Hall at 18 Delta Road on 5 and 6 December
