Cocaine seized at Dbn Harbour

95 bricks of cocaine valued at nearly R30-million.

NEARLY R30-million in cocaine was found in the Durban Harbour, aboard a ship from Argentina on Tuesday night, 1 October.

An intelligence-driven operation involving the Hawks, SAP DPCI and customs officials led to the seizure of a goods container holding 95 kg of cocaine, with a street value estimated at R29-million.

The police forensic team positively identified the 95 one kilogram bricks found packed in boxes in the container, as cocaine. Initial investigations showed that the seal of the container had been tampered with in order to smuggle the drugs into the country from Buenos Aires. It is believed a syndicate was operating and the plan was to remove the drugs before the container was handed over to the owner.

No arrests have been made at this point.

“Such operations will continue to make sure that the perpetrators who are trafficking drugs into our country face the full might of law,” said KZN police commissioner Lieutenant General Ngobeni.
