School spreads recycling message

Woodhaven Pre-Primary School has adopted the verge at the corner of Tern Way and Kenyon Howden Road.

A school in Woodhaven is calling on the community and surrounding areas to recycle.

Woodhaven Pre-Primary School registered with the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) to be an eco-school in January.

The pupils at Woodhaven Pre-Primary School are enthusiastic about their recycling efforts, and the school has a paper recycling bin as well as a glass recycling bin where they have been recycling on a regular basis. “We would like the community to support our bins,” said principal Denise Stott. On Thursday, 25 September the school held a grandparents’ day where pupils did a presentation as part of their heritage-eco programme under the motto ‘reduce, re-use, and recycle’. “The children love to create things out of anti-waste and pupil’s parents have also been involved, said Stott.

Woodhaven Pre-Primary School has adopted the verge at the corner of Tern Way and Kenyon Howden Road. “We want to help beautify our area. The school will be responsible for the upkeep of the verge,” said Stott.
The school also has a perma-culture food garden, which they started in April.
