Hijackings up by 47 percent in Montclair

Property crime has increased 12% according to national statistics.

Crime statistics released by the national minister of police, Riah Phiyega show that there has been an almost 50% increase in the Montlands area.

Hijackings have increased by 47% in the Montclair area. Hotspots include the corner of South Coast and Grimsby roads and Pendulbury Road as well as Woodlands and Montclair residential areas. “There has been a dramatic increase in the area. Motorists are urged to be aware and watch your surroundings. When arriving at home get someone to open the gate. Don’t be easy targets, be security conscious,” said Montclair SAP’s W/O Govender.

Property crime has increased 12% according to national statistics. “We have achieved most of our targets except burglaries at residences. Contributing factors to the increase in burglaries is brought on by people who abuse drugs. House breakings fuel their habit,” said Govender.
Montclair SAP have met their targets for firearm and drug-related crimes and driving under the influence of alcohol. “Regular operations are being held and visible policing are tasked according to crime threat analysis,” said Govender.
