Police recovered a VW Amarok stolen from Clairwood Hospital on Thursday, 4 September.

At about 4pm on Wednesday, sales executive Kresson Govender met Mr Dlamini, a man posing as a prosecutor at CR Swart. who said he was interested in buying a VW Amarok from Govender’s vehicle showroom. After arranging that Dlamini and his wife see the VW Amarok to secure the deal, Dlamini kept calling Govender to assure him that he wanted to buy the vehicle. On Thursday, 4 September at about 12.10pm, Govender met with Dlamini at CR Swart.

The men drove together to Clairwood Hospital where Dlamini’s wife worked to show her the vehicle. When the men arrived at the hospital, Govender met with Dlamini’s wife and showed the couple the Amarok. When Govender asked Dlamini for his driver’s license, he waved it at him. Dlamini then got into the car and drove off in the Amarok. Govender notified his manager and the police.

The stolen Amarok was recovered about 30 minutes later, abandoned in Isipingo. “Obviously I trusted Mr Dlamini because he said he was a prosecutor,” said Govender. He advises sales executives to check customers’ identification and driver’s licenses before leaving the vehicle showroom. He says sales executives should always carry their mobile tracking device when showing a customer a vehicle. Govender thanks Montclair SAPS who were helpful during the incident.
