More options for local golf club

The steering committee is doing everything in its power to save the Bluff National Park Golf Course.

THE future of the Bluff National Park Golf Club looks more promising as the steering committee promises more to its donors and South Coast Chamber of Commerce CEO, Dr Peter Munns joins its ranks.

“It is imperative that doubt and scepticism about the club’s chances of recovery are neutralised,” said ward 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois and he spoke of the recovery strategy underway.

The councillor’s call for 1,000 residents to donate R400 to kickstart the club’s recovery has been boosted, as club manager, Marcus Ingram agreed that all these donors will become social members of the club. This will allow them access to all the amenities of the club, and the grounds, which they are allowed take walks on. “This is the first step in diversifying access to and usage of the club,” said Du Bois.

Along with this is the addition of Dr Munns to the recovery steering committee. He has experience assisting golf clubs in financial difficulties. “Dr Munns has been provided with all the financial details of the club and will shortly present a business plan to chart the way forward. From his initial appraisal of the situation, he is confident that with appropriate measures, the club can be pulled out of the bunker.”

Cllr Du Bois believes this progress bodes well for the club’s prospects, but is well aware that much is yet to be done. “I appeal to Bluff residents to recognise that the fate and future of the Bluff hinges on the survival of that green lung area. We can’t afford to be complacent about that, which is why reaching the target of R400,000 is critical as an initial part of the recovery strategy. All it needs is for 1,000 Bluff residents to each to contribute R400 to account number 107 9066 233 at the Bluff branch of Nedbank. Come on, folks, this is a small price to pay,” said Du Bois. So far R31,000 has been raised.
