Detective’s work seals several convictions

Crimes include robbery, murder and intimidation.

Investigations led by Montclair SAPS were instrumental in the successful conviction of six criminals recently.

Durban Magistrate’s court sentenced Sizwe Ncumatha to 15 years for murder and one year for intimidation. On 16 October last year, Ncumatha (21) doused his father Mpendulo Milton Ncumatha (52) with thinners while he slept. The murderer also threatened to set his sister alight.
In another matter, Andile Toto Dlamini was sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. On 28 June 2013, Dlamini hijacked a vehicle in South Coast Road, Mobeni. Police arrested Dlamini while he was trying to sell a stolen cellphone which was taken from the hijacked vehicle.

On Monday, 1 September Durban magistrate’s court sentenced Ntlahla Lucky Madikizela (26) to 10 years in in prison. On 6 October last year, the murderer stabbed Gcinikhaya Mdandalaza (29) at a shopping complex inside SJ Smith hostel, Mobeni. Madikizela was arrested while hiding under a bed in the hostel.
On Wednesday, 3 September, Durban magistrate’s court sentenced Sandiso Bosman Khatywa (31) to 10 years’ imprisonment for murder. On Saturday, 17 May Khatywa stabbed Mlungisi Patrick Khumalo (32) to death at a tavern at Jabula Shopping Complex in South Coast Road, Mobeni.

On 15 April, Lindelihle Phumlani Sithole was sentenced on two counts for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Sithole hijacked a motorist in Roland Chapman Drive, Montclair on 30 June last year and then went on a robbery spree using the hijacked vehicle. He was arrested and charged with hijacking. Sithole will serve 30 years effective imprisonment for his crimes.
Philani Nxumalo was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances. On 22 August last year, he robbed a family at gunpoint in Teal Close, Woodhaven, Montclair. Police also linked Nxumalo to a house robbery in Verulam.
