Internet fraud on Bluff

Be warned of internet accommodation fraudsters.

INTERNET fraud related to rental accommodation on the Bluff is on the rise, according to Brighton Beach SAP.

The police have received numerous complaints of internet fraud, with victims paying over sums of money for fake accommodation.

“Rental agreements are being offered. Upon receipt of a deposit or payment, the tenant will find that the apartment, flat or house does not exist, and the contact person has broken all forms of communication and can’t be traced,” said Brighton Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

“It is recommended that if you intend to enter into an agreement to lease property, make sure the property exists before making any payment. If you are not able to conduct an on-site inspection of the premises yourself, request another person to do so on your behalf.”
