Freddy free to soar through the air

Five month old yellow-billed kite ready for release.

A yellow-billed kite that’s been treated at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) will soon be released into the wild.
Freddy was severely concussed and passing blood when he was taken to Crow in March by a member of the public. Staff at Crow have kept human contact with Freddy to a minimum and after five months, the wild bird is ready to be freed. “Freddy’s rehabilitation has gone as well as we could have hoped. He has been ready for release but as it has been winter, he needed to say with us a little longer to ensure his best chance of survival,” said Crow’s Paul Hoyte.
Crow plans to release Freddy next week. “We have just been waiting for the yellow-billed kites to return from their annual migration so that we can release him,” said Paul.
