20 months for heroin possession

A Wentworth man was sentenced to 20 months in prison for the possession of heroin.

A WENTWORTH man was sentenced to 20 months in prison for the possession of 28 straws of heroin on Tuesday, 15 July.

The 49-year-old was arrested at about 9.30am on 20 February, 2012 by Wentworth crime prevention officers while on patrol in Woodville Road. Police found 28 sealed straws containing a beige powder, suspected to be heroine.

Through the diligence of Sergeant Ivan Surriah, the man appeared in Durban Magistrate Court on 15 July and was convicted on two counts – with a fine of R6,000 or eight months in prison for one and a fine of R3,000 or 12 months in prison for the second. He is serving his sentence in Westville Prison.
