Finalist’s hospitality hopes on track

A local matric pupil competed in the Durban finals of the International Hotel School’s (HIS) ‘Ticket to Life’ bursary competition.

GROSVENOR Girls’ High School’s Candace Lategan was one of five matric pupils to make it to the Durban finals of the International Hotel School’s (HIS) ‘Ticket to Life’ bursary competition last week.

The competition was aimed at pupils interested in a career in the hospitality industry and offered a 100% bursary for the winner.

Lategan competed in a hospitality ‘boot camp’ from Monday to Friday, 14 to 18 July at Tala Private Game Reserve, where she worked in every department including housekeeping, front office, kitchen and banqueting while being judged.

The competition was eventually won by Carley Sclanders, with Kerusha Naidoo in second position. Lategan said she was very excited about the competition and made the most of the opportunity, as she dreams of becoming a hospitality manager.
