Don’t cut verge trees

Ward 66 councillor warns residents not to cut municipal trees.

WARD 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois has warned residents that the cutting of verge trees is prohibited.

The damage to a tree in Goodliffe Avenue and another in Spanier Marson Road in recent weeks by private individuals prompted the notification by the councillor.

According to Du Bois, only municipal officials may prune or cut trees located on verges or sidewalks. “If such a tree is problematic to a private resident, the Parks and Gardens Department or a councillor must be contacted, so the issue can be appropriately addressed. No resident is at liberty to engage a private contractor to cut or prune trees on municipal property,” said Du Bois.
