Of pollution and dug out ports

The dug-out port was the most contentious debate ever to happen to the South Durban Basin communities.

EDITOR – It is amazing how the pollution of our air has changed since the airport has moved.

There are no more dirty, black curtains, or fog that drifts through the valley.

Previously water did not seep into the ground, it just flowed off the top, while now the water seeps into the ground. Was it because of aircraft dropping their fuel before they landed?

Was this the cause of the some of the allergies that people experienced? I wonder how many people can vouch for how their allergies have improved on the Bluff and surrounding communities after the airport closed? In all the years I have lived on the Bluff, there was no mention of this.

Let’s see how long it takes before the north coast residents start seeing what pollution we had for years and what we had to put up with.

The dug-out port was the most contentious debate ever to happen to the South Durban Basin communities. It threatened to uproot and upset communities. Where did this upheaval lead to? So far, nowhere. The amount of energy and money that was put into this project must have been enormous. An outlay of the ratepayers’ money from the South Durban Basin communities.

As to feedback and to my understanding of this upheaval, which has dismayed in the surrounding communities, nothing has materialised outlining what action Transnet is going to take.

Is Transnet going to build this dug out port? If not, Transnet should apologise to communities most affected by this uncertainty and threat of upheaval. If Transnet is not going to build this dug out port, the Bluff ratepayers would like a refund on our rates that was spent, as it looks like nothing is happening with this waste of time project.
