Mandrax man tries to swallow straws

A man was found in possession of 70 straws containing mandrax.

A LAMONTVILLE man in possession of 70 straws of mandrax was arrested in a Wentworth flat on Friday, 30 May.

Wentworth SAP crime prevention conducted a special operation in Hime Street, headed by Captain Lawrence Lottering. The team moved in to inspect a flat, suspected to be a drug den and found a man counting drugs he had recently purchased.

When he saw the police, he tried to dispose of the evidence by swallowing a plastic packet containing the drugs. Constable Graham Mei and Brandin Naidoo quickly moved in and forced the man to remove the packet from his mouth. The arrested man was found to be in possession of 70 green straws containing powder suspected to be mandrax.

He appeared in Wentworth Court and was released on bail of R500.

Members of crime prevention are commended by Wentworth SAP management for the arrest and for sending a strong message to drug-dealers operating in the community.
