A BRIGHTON Beach SAP investigation into an alleged hijacker led to the discovery of a gun with a cloned serial number, on Monday, 21 April.
A tip-off in a hijacking case being investigated led Sgt Robert Jooste from the Brighton Beach detective tracking and tracing unit to a home in an informal settlement in Lamontville. A search of the home uncovered a .303 rifle in a black plastic bag hidden under a bed.
Investigations revealed the owner of the gun, but that it had not been reported as stolen. Looking further into the case, it was determined that the serial number was a duplicate. The gun has been sent for ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in the commission of a crime.
