Injured bikers disgruntled as police drag their heels

Driver hits and runs.

Two friends who were involved in an accident at the intersection of Kenyon Howden Road and Bale Avenue on Friday, 7 March are displeased with the service they received from Montclair SAP.

The pair were riding on a motorcycle heading to the shops in Kenyon Howden Road. As they were making their way through the circle at the intersection of Kenyon Howden and Bale Avenue, a motorist was approaching the intersection from Bale Avenue on the oncoming traffic lane. The driver knocked them over and fled the scene in the direction of Yellowwood Park.

He returned to the scene a few minutes later when emergency personnel had arrived. They saw him and pointed him out to the police. He took off once more and the police gave chase. Police captured and arrested him.

The driver of the motorbike, who wished to remain unnamed was not injured in the collision. He opened a case at Montclair police station and reported the accident. He was issued with an accident report number and a case number. The following day he returned to the station to find out what action was being taken. He claims when they searched for the case number, it had not been recorded but a case of drunken driving was noted for the day.

The disgruntled driver said: “The only thing I want is for my bike to be repaired.” 26-year-old Sizo Mfeka who was a passenger on the bike is unsatisfied with the way the case is being handled. “They have been dragging their feet. All I want is for something to be done. I want the case to be taken seriously,” said Mfeka.

Mfeka sustained a broken leg from the accident and has to have 27 staples removed from his leg weekly. He has been off work since the accident.

Speculation abounds that the motorist that hit them is a school pupil at one of the local high schools. Montclair SAP have yet to respond to questions posed to them about the accident two weeks ago.
