Who keeps pests at bay?

My emotional, mental and financial resources are now exhausted as I have had to pay someone R350 to spray the ticks that have left me with visible marks.

EDITOR – I refer to a reference number 14/3/213/57 for a call made by myself regarding the challenge faced by some residents and I, who are also tax and ratepayers in the area of Summerfields in Montclair.

I made a call to Ethekwini Municipality’s vector control on 31 March, seeking solutions to remove the cats and control ticks.

I received a call on 1 April at 7.45am informing me that it is not this component’s issue as they do not spray private property. The woman referred me to the SPCA on 031-579-6500 and I spoke to Shantal, who said they do not collect cats and as assistance, I need to catch them myself and call the SPCA to collect them before 9am.

I further made a follow-up call to Ethekwiini Municipality’s vector control to report the SPCA’s response, on 031-263-1300 and spoke to Bala Naidoo, who returned my call and gave me a number for the agriculture component on 031-302-2800 which I called and spoke to Nomusa, who too said it is not their responsibility.

My emotional, mental and financial resources are now exhausted as I have had to pay someone R350 to spray the ticks that have left me with visible marks.

Whose responsibility is this now, as none of the neighbours has ever kept a pet cat?
