Released baboon troop happy in the wild

Donations for the baboon enclosure still welcome.

Fourteen baboons released by the Centre For Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) after years of rehabilitation are thriving in their new home.

The baboons were released last November at a 10,000 hectare private game farm in Richmond. They have been monitored closely by Crow’s on-site monitor, who said they are happy and self-sufficient. The troop will continue to be monitored over the autumn and winter months as the natural vegetation will dry up, leaving minimal food stocks.

Progress is being made to revamp Crow’s baboon enclosure for a new troop. Crow thanks those who have already donated towards the R130,000 needed to completed the project and appeals to the community to donating as the target has not yet been reached.
