Richard, Ant, Rob win breakfast trips

THE second round of the midweek league took place last Wednesday at Wanderers Bowling Club.

Steve Van Rooyen’s side playing Berea away had a good win to take top spot in their third section.

Dennis Gericke’s side also had a win to keep themselves in the hunt in section six.

The other Wanderers BC side suffered their second loss and will have to pull a rabbit out of the bag to stay in contention.

On Saturday round three of the men’s interclub league was played. The A side scored 5-2 against Hillcrest B away, Lofty Cawthorne remaining unbeaten with a great 32-13 win. Arnie Harper and team also won well at 28-11. Richard and co came up against a back rank that pulled every trick in the book on them and lost 11-19. The B side’s Steve Van Rooyen won 23-17 but their partner team went down 15-24, so only two points were gained there as well as with the C side, thanks to a win by Andy Andraschko and co. Eric Kitchenbrand went down 18-26. Both the D and E sides lost 0-5.

On Sunday there was a very successful fundraising breakfast trips tournament played, which attracted 26 teams from many clubs. In first place was the team of Richard Hendicott Anthony Carr and Rob Atkinson with a score of 4+12. In second spot were Titch Geoff and Jeff on 4+9. Alan Finestone, Minette Hatton-Jones and Des Hean won first session with a plus 16 with Lofty Cawthorne, Archie Fisher and Eric Redman getting the second session with +15.

Arnie Harper, Heather Beselaar and Tommy Simpkins received the sportsman’s prize with a 0-20. Mike Freeman won the whisky raffle and Richard Hendicott won both 60/40 boards with the minor spoils going the way of Tom Simpkins and Marie Beselaar. Drawn prizes of choccies went the way of two leads, two thirds and two skips. The event was followed by a braai and music which was thoroughly enjoyed by those who stayed.

The men’s interclub league continues over the next two consecutive Saturdays, then a break for Easter. The PNB mixed pairs gets underway on Sunday, 6 April. Note the morning start and knock-out basis. Two rounds are to be played. Wanderers has nine teams entered, playing at different venues. Good bowling to all.

The women are to note that the playing of their drawn pairs is carded for next Saturday at *** MEG – CHECK THE TIME PLEASE – 1330. The draw is on the board.

Winners for the meat draw: Mutton pack Eric Kitchenbrand; lamb roast Ronnie Hook; chicken pack Chris Fourie; rump steak PJ Sparks; pork ribs Patti Redman; chicken Cave James.

The snowball of R500 was not won as Roy Overington was not present.

The monthly bowls draw of R750 went to Gwen Tait, R500 went to Thomas Simpkins, R250 was won by Rob Kemp.

The Smith and Nephew hamper went to Ronnie Hook. Jeff ‘Sausage’ is back this Friday night with his popular sounds from 7pm onwards.
