Property owners don’t want cell mast

We applied to MTN to get extended signal as the signal was so poor in the area.

Editor – An open letter in response to the letter about the MTN cell mast in Marine Drive.

We, Helena Marais and Francois Petrus Marais, in our capacity as owners of 433 Marine Drive, Bluff, herewith give our comments on the proposed installation of the 10 metre high telecommunication cellular mast and associated base station on our property.

We applied to MTN to get extended signal as the signal was so poor in the area. This was done some five years ago. We eventually applied, and I have the copies thereof, on 3 August, 2012 and then nothing happened until now.

In the meantime MTN put some temporary signal supporter up, which gave us the signal that we all needed, so we do not have the problem with the signal anymore.

We had numerous neighbours enquiring about the mast, as they are all worried about the metreage of the mast as well as radiation that it might cause. We cannot answer these questions as we do not have the answers. We also had many people driving in asking about the note on the pole.

We do not want to cause any unhappiness or disruptions in the neighbourhood as we are all very happy in our area and would ask (MTN) to stop the installation of this mast and base station that is supposed to be erected in our property.

Please see this as our complaint and that we would also not be happy with the erection of this in our property, not because of us, but because of our neighbourhood. It is of vital importance for us that we live in harmony with our neighbours. There is enough unhappiness in this country to fight about a small thing like this, not to make our neighbours unhappy.
