Nompilo hopes to heal the world

Crow's new addition to its team.

The Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) welcomes new educational environment officer, Nompilo Ngcobo (25) to its centre.

Nompilo will take the reigns as an educational environmental officer as well as champion the centre’s Wildlife Warriors project.

The enthusiastic nature lover hails from Dududu and matriculated from Roseville Secondary School in 2005. “When I completed my matric, I realised there are very few people who are aware of the crisis faced by nature. That’s how my love of nature came about,” said Nompilo.

She boasts an extensive CV, having volunteered at different wildlife reserves. Her tour started at Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve on the South Coast. From there she volunteered at Beechwood Nature Reserve, before spending 18 months with the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Her last stop was the Lion Park in Johannesburg before landing at Crow.

“Working with nature is my dream job. I want to teach people about nature and the environment so we can make a change in the world,” she said.

“My life’s goal is to build a centre where people can be involved in wildlife. It would also create jobs and teach them how make a difference in the environment.” Her most exciting part of her job is to be directly involved with children and having the platform to pass on the wildlife message.

As the champion of the Wildlife Warriors programme, she will teach children about nature and provide them with daily practises to have a positive impact on the environment.

Schools are welcome to make bookings for the Wildlife Warriors programme at R25 per pupil. It includes a presentation, a tour of Crow as well as a booklet full of fun activities. Nompilo can also visit the schools at a cost of R10 per pupil. Special interest groups are also welcome to book tours of the centre. For more information, contact Crow on 031-462-1127.
