Robbers target Woodlands homes

Robbers strike twice in one night.

Two Woodlands families were beset by robbers who made off with jewellery and cellphones on Sunday, 23 February.

Robbers gained access into a Bale Avenue home through a window in a back room, which was recently re-burglar guarded, making off with jewellery of an undisclosed value. Two weeks prior to the incident, robbers gained entrance into the house via the same window, which had burglar guards. They removed the window frame and burglar guards, and damaged the air-conditioners but were unsuccessful in plundering the home.

“We are traumatised. We cannot even sleep properly because we think they will return,” said Ajith Bheemchund. The Bheemchunds, who have lived in Woodlands since 1997 were last burgled in 2009. Oddly, the family they always have incidents of attempted housebreaking during the month of February and not any other months.

At about 3am on the same day, robbers pilfered a Stanbridge Crescent family of their jewellery and cellphones. The robbers gained entrance into the house through a bathroom window while the family was sleeping. At about midnight the same day, intruders tried to gain access to property. They tripped the alarm and fled.

The home owner, who wishes to remain unnamed, felt his family was targeted. “We traumatised. It is unnerving that a person can come into your house while you’re asleep, steal and leave,” he said. Some family members are undergoing counselling as a result of the incidents.

He advises home owners to ensure all windows are closed when they sleep, to keep all gates locked and to not tell strangers about the type of security they have at home.
