Call for Chipstead cul-de-sac

Councillor Du Bois believes the solution to the problem in Chipstead Avenue is to turn the road into a cul-de-sac.

WARD 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois has suggested the weakened Chipstead Avenue be converted into a cul-de-sac to reduce the potential of further road collapses in the future and reduce speeding in the area.

Du Bois said the deputy head of Roads and Stormwater Maintenance, Ken Hobson has acknowledged that further subsidence has occurred in the vicinity of the sinkhole in Chipstead Avenue. “But he has given no indication of how his department will proceed to tackle the sinkhole. I have suggested that Chipstead become a cul-de-sac at that point. Carlos Esteves of Road Traffic Management has accepted the idea as an option,” said Du Bois.

“If Chipstead Avenue did become a cul-de-sac, access via Carlton and Kings roads would not inconvenience residents of Chipstead. It would also put a stop to excessive speeding along Chipstead, about which residents have complained.”
