Runaway car crashes into wall

Three people were injured when a car crashed into a wall on Wood Road on Friday morning, 28 February.

It is alleged the woman driver was speeding and lost control of her vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. The collision caused her vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a wall. A water-pipe burst resulting in water gushing out uncontrollably. The excess water flooded nearby duplexes.

Sandile Khawula, who lives in one of the duplexes was disturbed by a loud noise while he was watching TV. “When I went to investigate, I saw a car had driven through the wall. My car’s windscreen, bonnet and bumper where damaged by the loose bricks. The water flooded the house. In the bathroom the water was waist high. A lot of damage was caused by the accident,” said Khawula.

It took six people three hours to clear the water. “I am glad the children were not around as they would have been traumatised. My whole day has been ruined. I had to cancel my meetings. We also cannot see the full extent of the damage even though the water has been cleared.”

His next door neighbours property was also flooded. Kellan Leeflang said: “Our neighbours property had more damage as they were closer to the wall and the water pipe. The water came gushing into our house. We had to move the furniture outside so we could remove the water. We have managed to move the furniture back into the house but the perimeter of the house is muddy.”

Montclair SAP were on the scene and are investigating further. The injured were taken to hospital.
