Swing into action to help golf club

Bluff National Golf Club appeals to the community for its support to ensure its continued existence.

Club captain, Mornay Pretorius said: “Many people, as a result of rumours, are under the impression the club is just for golfers and that it is not well maintained. This is not true. During November and December, we experienced mechanical issues with our equipment which resulted in the grass being too long, but this has since been resolved.”

The club is currently undergoing renovations which started in August last year. A playpen for children has been erected, new aircons have been installed, there is a braai area, the walls have been repainted and the flooring redone in an attempt to modernise it.

The club has faced many challenges, such as squatters and people dumping household items like washing machines in its canals. These issues are resolved and are being maintained. A desire to fence the area was unfortunately unfulfilled due to funding.

“The future of the club depends on the community’s support. The public needs to focus on the valley because once the club goes, the valley goes with it,” said Mornay.

“The club’s main focus is on the golf course and its machinery, which is constantly being repaired and needs to be replaced,” said club manager Sarah Shooter. She has confirmed the club is negotiating with a company for new machinery.

Bird experts who have surveyed the valley said there were 147 different species of birds resident on the course, but there has been an obvious increase in the number of stork, blue cranes and pelicans.

The club invites companies and individuals to advertise at the club or sponsor a hole. Social members are welcome at the club at only R300 per year. The venue is available for hire for functions.

“The club is for everyone. We ask the community to support us anyway they can as we would like to see the club run for another 100 years. We urge them to stop the bickering and give us a call and we will attend to their specific needs,” said Mornay.
