Pageant runner-up is a Woodlands beauty

Woodlands pageant queen, Ayabonga Shezi (16) claimed the Mzansi SA Role Models' first princess title in December.

The New Forest High School prefect has only been modelling for two years and has already amassed several titles in a short time, including being crowned KZN Mzansi Role Model 2013.

“I was humbled and honoured being crowned Miss Mzantsi Role Models’ first princess. Winning the KZN title boosted my confidence ahead of the finals and I knew I had to represent my province well. I also wanted to challenge myself as I was the youngest person to ever compete in the event,” said Ayabonga.

Her other titles include winning Miss Junior Teen KZN Mzantsi Role Model, Junior Teen Mzantsi Africa Role Model and scooping second princess at the KZN Top Model competition where she competed with contestants six years her senior.

Proving she doesn’t only possess beauty, but brains too, Ayabonga has full academic colours, is a provincial environmental ambassador and she was also a member of the Durban Youth Council.

She holds a seat on the religions for peace forum and is Montclair Youth Desk’s treasurer. As an avid sportswoman, Ayobonga swims, plays soccer as well as netball.

“I started modelling because I thought it would be a great platform to improve the lives of those less fortunate than myself. I am grateful to God and my parents, who have been with me every step of the way.”

Ayobonga hopes to become a great role model by contributing towards youth development as well as empowering the youth. She also aims to compete in the Miss South Africa pageant. After matriculating, she wants to study towards a maritime studies or a BSC degree in actuarial science.
