Hijacker arrested within an hour

THE Durban South K9 Unit arrested a man less than anhour after he hijacked a man in New Germany on Wednesday, 22 January.

At about 4pm a man parked his red Polo Playa along Van der Byl Road in New Germany and joined a woman inside her Kia Serato nearby. Shortly thereafter, two unknown men walked up to the car on the passenger side and pointed a gun at the man. They pulled him out the Kia, searched him and took his car keys and R700 in cash. They did the same to his friend and fled with both cars.

The pair quickly contacted police, who began a search for the vehicles. The Durban South K9 Unit were called in for back-up and quickly discovered one of the hijacked vehicles, crashed on Igwababa Road in Kloof. Three men abandoned the car and fled on foot, with the police able to catch up with one of them in Spinal Road.

The 28-year-old was arrested and charged with hijacking and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
