Chatsworth burglary syndicate bust

A joint operation between the Chatsworth Cluster Crime Intelligence, Durban South, Shongweni K9 and the Durban flying squad units lead to the arrest of five men for house robberies between 15 and 18 January.

The syndicate was committing crimes in Chatsworth and surrounding areas using a Nissan 1400 bakkie. Three of the men, who have been linked to more than three house robberies were arrested in Pinetown. A 19-year-old man who had fled to Cliffdale was arrested on Thursday, 16 January and a 36-year old man was also arrested at Inanda.

The bakkie used in the house robberies was recovered in New Germany. Two men in the vehicle at the time it was located by authorities, fled the scene.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle had false number plates. It had been reported stolen in Hillcrest in October.

The men appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 January.
