Bluff motorist ticked off at being tagged for e-tolls

BLUFF resident, Cyril Govender, who hasn’t been in Johannesburg since before the e-toll gantries become operational, was shocked when he received SMS notifications of his failure to pay his e-toll account.

On Saturday, 4 January he was informed he had an outstanding account of R178.56. Nine days later, a second message brought the total to R729.09. “I don’t understand how they got my details. I have never registered, nor have I been to Johannesburg since the system was implemented,” said Govender.

He phoned the Sanral number and was met by a machine. “After waiting to speak to someone, I gave up. Why should I have to run around, wasting my money phoning people to fix their mistake? They need to get their systems functioning properly and not target the wrong people.”
