Teacher pistol-whipped, robbed of R22,000

A large sum of money was stolen from a teacher at Ningizimu Special School in Kenyon Howden Road on Friday, 29 November.

The teacher and a member of his church cashed a cheque of R60,000 at Montclair Mall. They walked to the school, with the money tucked away in the teacher’s pockets. While they were conversing in a classroom, two armed men approached them and demanded the money. They hit the teacher with the back of the gun on the head. They tore one of his pockets, taking a sum of R20,000 and his wallet containing R2,650.

Lt Leopold Jojozi said: “According to a witness, the men jumped into a white VW Polo and fled towards South Coast Road.”

He urges the public to refrain from withdrawing large amounts of money, but to do electronic transfers instead. The public is warned criminals are on the prowl during the festive season and are cautioned to be aware of your environment at all times. He advised not to accept help from strangers at ATMs.
