Wash fun day transfers healthy message

FUN was had by hundreds of children and their parents at the Wentworth Crèche Forum’s (WCF) Water, Sanitation, Health and Hygiene (Wash) programme fun day on Saturday, 2 November at Assegai Primary School in Wentworth.

People played sports; competed in races, a colouring in competition and dancing competitions; enjoyed a foam display by the fire brigade and a magician show; petted animals and were given sweets and fruit by Disney characters.

A focus of the day was the health and wellness section, which invited children to join the hand washing pledge, check their weight, get vitamin A drops and have their eyes and teeth screened. Parents and older family members were offered blood pressure and sugar tests and HIV testing and counselling.

“The day was a lovely health promotion and family fun day and the WCF was honoured to celebrate the day with children from St Monica’s Children’s Home. We are overwhelmed by the general positive response and thank all the children and families who turned out,” said Pearl Windvogel, WCF chairman.

Hundreds of people enjoy the entertainment at the Wash fun day.

The WCF thanks local and provincial government Wash stakeholders, Donald Fynn, Simran Financial Services, EE Electrical, B Dunn Communications, Exodus Security services, Govender’s Curry Den, ADAPT IT, Jabulani Furnishers, Bronwyn Fisher, Joseph Fynn, Trevor Skeepers, Justin Titus, Claudette Bloem, Kerry Richards, Caylin Kirsten, St Monicas, Durban Child Welfare, Wentworth Organisation of Women and Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre.
