Robbery concern in South Durban

ROBBERIES are on the increase in certain parts of South Durban, according to Brighton Beach SAP.

An increased number of robbery cases have been reported in Jacobs, Clairwood and Grosvenor, Fynnlands, Brighton Beach and Bayhead on the Bluff. These crimes tend to happen towards late afternoon and in the evening.

Cash, mobile phones, jewellery and laptops are the most popular items targeted. Despite weapons not being used in all incidents, the victims were threatened with injury or death. The profile of the attacker or attackers varies and no specific group is targeted, making it difficult to monitor the crimes.

The public is urged to be vigilant at all times. Communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux urges people to avoid shortcuts that use staircases or parks. “Rather walk on main streets where there is a continuous flow of traffic than taking side streets. Do not walk while chatting or texting on your mobile phone.

Should you become a victim of a robbery obey the orders of your attacker instead of challenging them, as they will not hesitate to harm you, or those who are in your company to reach their goal.”
