Car alarm jammers arrested

Two men involved in vehicle alarm jamming were arrested by Montclair SAP at Montclair Mall on Tuesday, 22 October.

“We responded to a tip-off from a member of the public about the activities of the men. When we arrived, we saw the two men who fit the description given to us by the member of the public. Other members of the public who had seen the men confirmed they were involved in vehicle alarm jamming. Upon searching the men, one of them had a remote in his hand and upon questioning, he said it belonged to a gate at home. The men were taken to the police station for further questioning. The man later changed his story and said he had found the remote,” said W/O Poobalan Marimuthu.

The men were charged with possession of car-breaking implements and appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 23 October.

Communications officer, Lt Jojozi said: “We urge the public to be vigilant when parking their cars. They must ensure their vehicle alarms are activated and their doors are securely locked. All valuable possessions are to be kept out of sight. People should be aware of their surroundings at all times. If you see a suspicious person or activitie, call the Montclair police station on 031-469-8200.
