Bikers on a roll for Sunflower Fund

About 202 bikers showed their support for The Sunflower Fund's first annual Bikers4Bandanas breakfast run on Sunday, 20 October.

The run started at Southway Mall and ended off at Jimmy Bellows in Westville. Through the sale of Sunflower bandanas, donations, entry fees and a raffle, R22,909 was raised, which will assist in adding new bone marrow stem cell donors to the South African Bone Marrow registry. The inclusion of new donors increases the chances of those diagnosed with leukaemia to find their 1:100,000 donor match.

The trophy for the biggest club entry was scooped by Unashamed Motorcycle Club with a total of 23 participating bikers. Lots of fun was had by all and some even took home lucky draw prizes.

The Sunflower Fund thanks the KZN Motorcycle Federation, Westville Old Boys Sports Club, Tracey’s Glass Aluminium, the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) as well as all the bikers who participated and all prize sponsors.

Public relations manager, Stephanie Berry encourages the public to become bone marrow stem cell donors. Simply call the Sunflower Fund’s toll free number on 080-012-10-82 or visit www.sunflowerfund.org.za. All it takes is two test tubes of blood and if you are a match, there is no surgery involved.
