ABM team work to foster unity in South

THE South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) is taking steps towards entrenching itself within the area through engaging with community leaders in a bid to ‘uplift communities together’.

The SDB ABM hosted a briefing session, attended by SDB ward councillors, war room chairmen and ward committee chairmen to “sharing the broad programmes and projects planned by the ABM office, resulting from a needs assessment done at ward level,” said Eurakha Singh, SDB ABM manager.

‘Let’s uplift our communities together’ was the underlying message of the day. Ward 68 councillor, Aubrey Snyman said: “The presentation was informative and it makes sense for all parties to work together.” Ward 32 councillor, William Zenzele agreed, saying ABM offices play an important role in avoiding duplication of services and are central in co-ordinating stakeholders in delivering to communities.

“The SDB is a very important area to the city and it is important that all opportunities that come to the area become available to local communities and this can only be done if we worked as a team,” said eThekwini Municipality speaker, Logie Naidoo.

Programme director, Puven Akkiah said the session achieved its purpose of building trust and credibility among the assembled parties in order to foster open lines of communication and a clear definition of roles and responsibilities.

“We believe that through partnerships with our war rooms and ward committees we can package and implement projects that are meaningful and responsive to community needs,” said Singh.
