Spike in burglaries on Bluff

BRIGHTON Beach SAP has warned of an upsurge in housebreakings in the area.

According to communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, these crimes are generally committed from 2pm to 8pm and in the majority of cases, the back door and/or gate is forced open.

“Community members can assist the local police by reporting suspicious people hanging around their properties or just sitting in a vehicle for a long time by phoning 10111. It is imperative that a description of the vehicle is provided, including colour, make, model, registration number and any insignia. Also take note of the number of people inside the vehicle and their descriptions, such as race, gender, build, height, clothing and tattoos or scars.

Insufficient light on the sides of houses, in back yards and bushy areas makes it easier for perpetrators to strike when it is dark.”

She said gates and doors, including those of outside buildings must all be locked when no-one is home and recommends that home owners invest in a security system with a PSIRA-accredited security company.
