Man out on bail nabbed for another murder

A CLAIRWOOD man, already charged with murder, was arrested on Sunday, 6 October when he allegedly shot and killed a 32-year-old man in the Khayelisha informal settlement in Clairwood.

Brighton Beach SAP attended the shooting scene just after 5pm. A witness to the murder said he had been sitting in a room with the deceased when a friend came in, fidgeting with a gun. He activated the magazine release pin, removing the magazine and then shot the deceased. He fled on foot, dropping the gun as he left.
Warrant Officer Marius Van Der Looy and Sergeant Paul Van Den Berg, who attended the scene, found the serial number on the gun had been filed off. Following information they received, the pair searched for the man in the La Lucia informal settlement nearby. Armed with his description, the police officers quickly located and arrested the man, who was later identified by the witness.
The investigation into the murder revealed the alleged shooter was out on bail of R2,000 after he was arrested in May for the murder of a man he stabbed during a fight.
The 31-year-old, who has not yet pleaded, was charged with murder and appeared in Durban Court on Tuesday, 8 October. He will re-appear in court on Wednesday, 16 October for a formal bail application, which the state intends to oppose.
The officers involved are commended by Brighton Beach SAP management for tracing the suspect within hours of the murder.
