Mass fight erupts outside school

BRIGHTON Beach SAP confirmed they attended the scene of an incident at Grosvenor Boys High School on the morning of Wednesday, 28 August and again later as matters escalated after school.

According to communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, police were summoned to the school in the morning after a small altercation between pupils, which was quickly brought to a halt by officers.

“It is alleged that a pupil from Grosvenor Boys who lives in Lamontville then requested a friend who lives and goes to school in Lamontville to assist him after school to finalise the dispute from the morning.”

The friend arrived at the school at the end of the day and pointed a toy gun at the second Grosvenor Boys pupil involved in the morning’s altercation. Capt Le Roux said allegations that anyone was assaulted with the gun or that shots were fired are untrue.

The interloper was repeatedly beaten by pupils at the school and at some point during the fracas, one of his assailants stabbed him in the back with an unknown object. Police officers were unable to track down the object and the boy was treated on scene and taken to the police station.

He was released shortly after when the parents of the boy he aimed the gun at declined to press any charges. Captain Le Roux said they had received no evidence to indicate that the incident was gang-related.

“Often private matters between fellow pupils which emanate from after-hours activities are brought into the school environment. It is regrettable that pupils will endanger fellow pupils’ lives by inviting violence into their school.”

The following morning, police were on scene at the school, conducting searches of the pupils as they arrived and no dangerous weapons were found. They also monitored activities at the end of the school day and no retaliation action ensued.

“The matter must be dealt with internally by the school’s governing body and the Department of Education through a formal tribunal procedure.”
