Wentworth’s budding entrepreneurs polish their pitches

THREE Wentworth entrepreneurs proved themselves to their community and businessmen as they were selected as winners of the local Engen Pitch and Polish competition.

On Saturday, 13 July, local hopefuls made their way to the Austerville Community Hall for a workshop and competition where they hoped to learn how to successfully pitch their business ideas to potential funders.
A collaboration of Engen, Raizcorp and SAfm, the community project was intended to educate, empower and uplift, with guidance through competition and guest speakers.
Each contestant was given the opportunity to express a 30 second pitch, which was ‘polished’ by the facilitator, Eugene Human and the audience. A second one minute pitch was then further critiqued and improved upon, before the contestants presented a three minute pitch to the assembled judges.
Making a success of the day and through to round 2 to take place later this year were Nhlakanipho Shange, with an advertising system for public transport; Trinelle Wood with custom-made cushions, headboards and linen and Felicia Mshololo with a construction and renovation idea.
“The value in Engen Pitch and Polish is incredible as the full-day workshop is dedicated to imparting knowledge.
We can see the growth throughout the day and what is taught is indicative of the business world,” said Unathi Njokweni-Magida, group transformation manager of Engen.
