Gardeners sow seeds for Arcadia contest

Arcadia garden competition in October

THE president of Natalia Garden Club opened the meeting with a prayer and welcomed everyone present, including visitor, Donna Franck.

Caroline thanked members for the snacks.

She mentioned several club members who were very ill and asked that they be kept in mind and prayers.

She also reminded all of the Arcadia garden competition in October. Judging will be on Friday, 25 October and viewing on Saturday, 26 October. Members were informed that the Botanic Gardens were having an events day on the Saturday. Pamphlets were available.

Margaret Everett complimented the shell collection entries and showed some rare shells of her own, the nautilus and a large cowry.

Birthday wishes and gifts went to all who had birthdays in July. Door and raffle prizes were supplied by Monica Auguste and won by Zela Catlett and Villie Pigg. The R100 club draw was won by Joyce Huygens. 200 point prizes went to Gwen Barnes, Joyce Huygens and Lettie van Jaarsveld.

The speaker was the secretary of the club, Marie Pistorius, who gave an interesting talk on bats.

Best pot plant: C Kotze, N Brown 10; M Dunn 9;

The next meeting takes place on Thursday, 8 August at the Pigeon Club in Tara Road at 9.30am. Visitors are welcome. Wendy Rodger will talk on butterflies. Competitions are: Decorative – a small succulent garden, and cultural – an aloe bloom, as well as the usual others.

The following members must bring two plates of snacks each: R Ndlovu, Y Oldfield, J Padt, M Page, R Paskin, E Pickster and M Pistorius.
