Ansteys Beach upgrade enters sensitive dune planting stage

Phase four of the rehabilitation project will commence in the coming weeks

THE Ansteys Beach upgrade has entered its third phase, according to ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo.
This phase includes windbreak measures, which alleviates the issues of sand blowing onto the sidewalks and the planting of dune vegetation along the length of Foreshore Drive.

This latter element of the upgrade will be planted in a bid to stabilise the beach sand, preventing any further dune deterioration.

“The ward committee chairman for beach conservation, Duncan Pratt is working closely with the city to ensure the project is implemented to the highest quality standards. I have written to the parks department to erect signage along the dune, informing residents not to walk over the newly planted area,” said Cllr Prinsloo.

If residents notice anyone walking along this area, they are encouraged to request them to use the newly built staircases. If the vegetation is not protected during this vital stage of its lifecycle, it will jeopardise the success of the rehabilitation project.
Phase four of the rehabilitation project will commence in the coming weeks, with the installation of beach equipment on the newly built bricked platforms.
