Teen arrested with gun, ammo in Wentworth

AN 18-year-old boy arrested and charged for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Friday, 18 May, was one of five men arrested on the same day on unrelated cases.

Members of the Durban Flying Squad and Wentworth police swooped on the boy, following a tip-off from an informant.
He was found with a .38 special firearm and five cartridges. He was detained in police custody and  appeared in court on Monday, 21 May.

Four other suspects were also arrested on the same day for attempted murder, related to shooting cases which happened in the Wentworth area.

The accused are aged between 18 to 21. They were all due to appear in Durban court on Monday, 21 May. “The police will be arresting all perpetrators of crime or violence in the Wentworth area and all those implicated will be brought before court for prosecution,” said Wentworth SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbuso Gumede.
