Enviro-activists to warn youth about offshore exploration impacts

D'Sa urged the youth of Durban South to attend the meeting.

THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) will host a youth and education oil and gas awareness workshop to highlight and inform affected people and interest groups on the impacts of offshore oil and gas drilling along the KZN coast.
The meeting takes place at Austerville Civic Centre on Thursday, 10 May at 9am to discuss the Sasol Africa and Eni Italian Oil Corporation’s intention to explore and drill for oil and gas along the coast of Port Shepstone, Richards Bay and Durban.

“These plans were not shared with the public through meetings and consultations which is unacceptable. KZN is renowned for its beautiful beaches. However, healthy oceans are critically important to marine life and to coastal communities whose economies rely on tourism, fishing and recreational activities. Opening up new offshore areas to drilling risks permanent damage to our oceans and beaches,” said SDCEA’s Desmond D’Sa.
D’Sa urged the youth of Durban South to attend the meeting. For more information contact SDCEA project officer Sherelee Odayar on 031-461-1991.
