Comrades seminars to assist ultra athletes in capital to coast journey

In the past these seminars have helped thousands of newbie runners across the finish line.

SOUTH Africa’s iconic Comrades Marathon will be run on Sunday, 10 June, a ‘down-run’ from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, in which many of the 20,000 runners will be tackling this ultra-distance for the first time.

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned ultra distance athlete, attending the series of seminars co-ordinated by the Comrades Marathon Association annually will assist as many runners as possible to complete their epic journey from the capital to the coast.

These include the Bonitas Comrades women’s seminar which is being held on Saturday, 3 February at the Elangeni Hotel Maharani on the Snell Parade. Booking is essential for this morning workshop which includes a breakfast and costs R150. Registration and breakfast is from 7.30am to 9am and the seminar runs from 9am to 11.30am.

In addition, the Bonitas Comrades roadshow takes place at 7pm on Wednesday, 7 February at the Hollywood Bets Athletic Club, Sahara Kingsmead Cricket Stadium. This event is free of charge.

The well-received Bonitas Comrades novice seminars, which are being held in six cities, will assist novice runners to plan their training, give them insights about the route, what to expect along the way and help them mentally and physically prepare.

Upper South Coast athletes can take advantage of the Durban leg of the seminar which will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, 25 April at Stella Athletics Club, which is located at Glenwood Preparatory School in Bath Road, Glenwood.

These informative seminars are aimed specifically at the first time Comrades Marathon runner. A panel of experts will be available to provide invaluable advice and also answer questions about the race, with the official Comrades coach on hand to assist. Comrades officials will also be in attendance to help with details about registration as well as what to expect at the start and finish.

The Comrades Marathon theme for 2018 being ‘Asijki – No turning back’ and the novice seminars are designed so that runners tackling the marathon for the first time, won’t.
