Joy, tears from South Durban’s matric class of 2017

lass of 2018 - start now with the studying, get serious as soon as you get your books

CONSISTENCY and time management are the key to the success enjoyed by many National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric pupils from the Bluff and Montclair, who were overjoyed to finally receive their 2017 results on Friday, 5 January.

New Forest schoolmates achieved 10 distinctions between them. Head boy Sihle Dlugele will be studying accounting and Shélin Pillay will follow his dream in computing egineering.

Bluff Christian Academy (BCA) boasted an 80% Bachelor pass and seven A-aggregate matriculants.
Principal, Cheryl Ross was proud of her matriculants and wished them well as they pursued their dreams. “I encourage 2018 matrics to work consistently from day one. Live a healthy, balanced life, allowing appropriate time daily for studies. Do not leave everything to the end and try to cram – that does not work. It is vitally important to be at school daily and pay attention to your teachers’ advice. Remember your teachers want you to succeed as much as you do,” she added.

Mowat Park’s top matric pupil Olwethu Shangase is proud of her six As and is looking forward to her future in medicine.

Mowat Park principal, Nkosinathi Tsaulwayo, who thought his matrics could have done better than their 88% pass rate, said as teachers they did their best to get the matrics into shape. “I was expecting a higher pass rate and this year we are definitely going back to the drawing board to see where we can improve. I urge class of 2018 to start now with the studying, get serious as soon as you get your books. Each term is important,” he said.

New Forest principal, Cherie Pet is proud of her matric class of 2017, who worked consistently to achieve an impressive 98.5%. “My staff and I wish the pupils well in their already bright futures and hope they take the lessons they learnt at New Forest High and use it in their lives. We hope the 2018 matrics take a leaf out of 2017’s book and raise that bar even higher. Remember, consistency is key,” she added.
